In October, we partnered with supermodel and mom, Robyn Lawley, to demand change in the lingerie industry and its leader, Victoria’s Secret. Our Change.org petition urging Victoria’s Secret to include more representative models in their annual fashion show garnered more than 10,000 signatures and seemingly got the attention of top leadership at VS.
On Nov. 8, Victoria’s Secret’s Chief Marketing Officer, Ed Razek, made shocking, derogatory statements in a Vogue interview that needed to be addressed. Not only did he say that people are still uninterested in seeing plus-size models, but he also mentioned that they wouldn’t cast “transexuals” in their show. Shortly after, Jan Singer stepped down as CEO of Victoria’s Secret and was soon replaced by a man. Reading Ed’s comments, we knew we couldn’t be silent any longer, and ThirdLove Co-Founder and Co-CEO found her voice in an open letter in The New York Times about why that sort of antiquated thinking has no place in 2018.
The past couple months have been eventful, to say the least. We are overwhelmed by the positive response we’ve received across social and traditional media, but what will never change is ThirdLove’s commitment to building a brand for every woman, regardless of her shape, size, age, ethnicity, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
And we will continue to speak up whenever that is challenged.
