Style Foundations: Sophia Roe
Chef and Creator Sophia Roe (@sophia_roe) spends her days close to the source — in conversation with the farmers and makers who grow her ingredients, then behind the stove turning their work into something worth sharing. It's a craft built on respect: for the land, for the people who tend it, and for the process that can't be rushed.

This is what Style Foundations means when it talks about effortlessness — not a big gesture, but the first layer that goes on before anything else does, quietly setting the tone for everything that follows. We asked Sophia what that actually looks like in her life.
What's the foundation of your craft?
"The foundation and single most important guiding principle behind all of my work are my tools. In my case that means the food itself! No matter what you're attempting to cook, if you start with in-season product that's been grown thoughtfully, intentionally, and in conjunction with the planet and its natural cycles, I promise you'll end up with a beautiful finished product."
What's the part that nobody sees?
"Sadly, most people don't meet or see the human being behind the food they consume. If you have the opportunity to meet your local farmers, makers, and purveyors — DO IT! These folks dedicate their lives to the land. I wish more people understood the importance of their efforts, work, and mission."
How do you set the tone for your day? What are your rituals?
"Mornings are for Mizu and I. No matter what's going on, Mizu and I spend every single morning together. We brush our teeth and get dressed together. She hangs out with me while I prep her breakfast and lunch. Some days she'll walk with me to get my morning coffee. Mizu sets the tone for my day every single day."
What's the first layer you put on?
"My Thirdlove bra, of course!"
What does it set up for the rest of your day?
"Peace of mind knowing I've honored nature and its process."
That's the thing about a foundation — it's rarely the part anyone else sees. It's the layer underneath everything else, the one that has to hold up whether she's at a farm at sunrise, in the kitchen, or just starting the day with Mizu. For Sophia, that layer is her Thirdlove.
